What do we see in this work of art?
This printed mural on a poster with a frame “Göhre” by the Jena artist Sergej Uchatsch shows another motif from his works that deal with the city of Jena. You can see the so-called Hanfried monument. It shows the founder of the Jena University, Johann Friedrich I of Saxony. The bronze statue is located on the market square in Jena, where festivals and events, such as flea markets or the Christmas market, take place all year round and the statue is of course always in the middle of them. We as Jena residents know this motif all too well, but the reason why this work of art is called “Göhre” is actually the building in the background. This is the Jena City Museum, which gives the mural its name. Sergej has chosen one of the most famous places in Jena and immortalized it in his work of art.
