What do we see in this canvas painting?
In the detailed painting of the lovers we see two rocky shores in one frame. Between them runs a body of water with various aquatic creatures and a boat with a goose's head. The focus of the picture is the fertile bank with the many plants, colorful animals and two people. While the person on the right sits on a rock and holds his right hand up, the second person stands opposite him and holds a bow and arrow in his hand. Your gaze rests on a colorful bird sitting on a tree.
Since the work is very detailed, the artist worked on it for over 100 hours.
Poetry is highly valued in the Persian cultural and linguistic area, so that the Persian culture has produced a number of famous and successful poets. The most important function of the miniatures was illustration. They gave the stories of Persian literature a face to make the plot easier to understand.
Salaman and Absal is a work of art about a failed romance between a prince and his nanny from Haft Awrang ("Seven Thrones"). This story by the Persian poet Jami is a classic of 15th century Persian literature.
The original painting, from which the artist drew inspiration for its fine details and history, originally dates from the Safavid period (17th century).
